Sight words (also called popcorn words, high frequency words, tricky words or snap words) appear frequently in texts and are often "tricky" to sound out. So, beginning readers should learn to recognize these words automatically (without adult help and within 3 seconds).

Playing games with the words makes learning them more fun! Try:
- write each word two times on index cards and make a Memory game
- with this same set of cards, play a version of Go Fish!
- use wikki stix to form the word (kinesthetic learning)
- play ME vs. YOU: Put cards in a pile. Flip a card. If your child knows it, she keeps it. If she doesn't you keep it. See if she can beat you!
- use a crayon to write the word on paper (kinesthetic learning)
